Maybelline has a huge range of lip products (hydrating lipsticks, shiny lipsticks, glosses, long wear lipsticks etc). In my opinion they do a much better job with these products than with mascaras. I liked all their lipstick collections (Moisture Extreme – my most favorite one, Watershine, Color Sensational, Superstay), generally because they have a huge range of shades and they are very affordable. From what I know, lipstick is the cheapest make-up product (in terms of costs for a company), that is why I was rarely tempted to buy high end lipsticks.
Maybelline confirms it. Often expensive lipsticks are worst than drugstore.
From my experience, you can not go wrong with Maybelline or Rimmel lipsticks. They can always be compared with high end brands like Yves Saint Laurent, Dior, Clinique or even MAC.
Color Sensational has a huge range of shades, divided in several general tones like pinks, nudes, plums, reds, browns etc. My picks from this range were Pink Brown and Mystic Mauve. A brown and a plum. Love them both. The shades are extremely similar as you can see in the picture (the upper swatch is Pink Brown and the other is Mystic Mauve). On the lips they don’t look as similar, actually they are very close to the swatch on label. Mystic Mauve is a light, sheer cool mauve (no shimmer, just a little hint of pearl just enough to give it a little shine, but very subtle). Pink Brown is more intense, a very naturally looking brown, no shimmer or frostiness again. I would say rather matt.  I find that the formula in the mauve one is smoother than the other; the brown can leave the lips a little dry. Apparently, the formula depends on the shade.
What I love about them? They are very moisturizing and the color payoff is more intense than Extreme Moisture. The Color Sensational range seems to mix the color with moisture, the most appreciated features in lipsticks. So, I got moisture, color and a yummy taste. Besides the price is extremely inviting: 5$ to 7$, and even cheaper on sales. And another thing…you get to choose from probably more than 50 shades. There must be one for everyone. In terms of packaging: very nice, with caps that suggest the shade (pink, brown, plum).
Down sides? I found that some shades are too frosty with bits of shimmer that can get all over, the consistency is a little bit too creamy on other shades and the product can break. I suggest you keep it in a cool place or even in the fridge if it’s too warm outside. As I said, the formula (more drying or moisturizing) depends on the shade, and that is, sadly, a real down side. I know some friends of mine that can’t stand scented lipstick. These taste pretty strong like melon, chocolate cakes or coconut; the taste can get artificial in time.
I would definitely buy it again. Some shades of red caught my eye, but I am waiting for some sales to get more, because overall Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick is a very good product.
