Lancome Ink Artliner Gel in Black Carbon Ink – Review

Lancome Ink Artliner Gel in Black Carbon Ink - Review

Since I started using make-up I’ve been developing huge obsessions with eyeliners that had to be dark, intense and easy to apply. The easiest way to create lines is with pencil eyeliner, but usually they are not intense or dark enough. Liquid liners are intense but not as easy to apply. So, I said to myself I have to try the new generation of liners (actually they are probably as old as make-up, but the formulas are new), those fancy looking liners that come in small pots, having gel or cream consistency. They are applied with special eyeliner brushes (angled, bent, fine, thick etc). I went to the store and bought the most expensive one there: the Lancome Ink Artliner in Black Carbon.

The price was around 24 $. A little bit expensive, I know. I don’t regret it, though. It looks like a smooth black gel in a jar. Being so smooth the application is a piece of cake. I apply it with a bent brush like the one in the picture, or sometimes in order to get a thicker line, I use a small lip brush.

What I love about it? It is the smoothest consistency I’ve ever tried with eyeliners, does not dry in the pot (I have it for a year and it looks as good as new), you need such a tiny quantity of product, that glides on so nice to create the line, it can be removed easily without leaving strikes, black residues or flakes and it stays in place all day. Another very important feature is that it can be used like a base for eyeshadow, for dark dramatic looks or smokey eyes.

I’ve been using also the Clinique Brush On Cream Eyeliners, but somehow I prefer the Lancome one, because of its gel formula. The Clinique are creams and they are very nice and very intense, don’t get me wrong, but they dry too fast.

Down sides? Yes, there are some. The black is not extremely black, the product is seasonal, Lancome comes with new shades each season and then discontinues them. If that is some kind of marketing procedure, I personally don’t get it. And then…some might fond it a little expensive, compared with other similar products that can be found in drugstores for example (from brands like Maybelinne, L’Oreal HIP, Wet n’ Wild s.o.).

Would I buy it again? Well it looks like it is going to last me for ages, but I think I would save some money and buy it again, no doubt about it.

    3. I boughtheard of Klix makeup brushes. You don’t wash , you just “click” on new clean brush heads. What a great idea!
